Wondering if you would enjoy public speaking?

Looking for invaluable critiques of your brief lecture in a fun and supportive atmosphere?

Submit a case to present at the ACVIM Forum in Austin, Texas on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. Accepted applicants will receive free registration for the ACVIM Forum for their efforts!

Any questions? Contact  ACVIMTechCaseReports@AIMVT.com
Deadline for submission is Tuesday, March 15th 11:59pm PST.

Information on Presenting
The subject of the Technician Case Reports must be a patient with a condition from one of the AIMVT specialties (Cardiology, Large Animal Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, or Small Animal Internal Medicine) or the specialty of Nutrition

Technician Case Report Presentations should demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and expertise in the specific specialty, and should be selected based on your ability to demonstrate those in the presentation.

Cases selected for presentation are not required to be rare or unusual, however unique patient presentation, interesting disease aspects, or uncommon case management scenarios enhance presentations for submission.
  • There is no limitation as to the species or other specifics of the case.
  • Case Reports are considered scientific presentations and as such should be presented in the third person.
  • Information regarding the disease, diagnostics, therapy, and treatments must be included in the presentation.
  • The case should exemplify the use and application of a high degree of veterinary nursing skills and assessment.
  • The case should demonstrate that the patient’s outcome was, in part, linked to the nursing care provided.
  • References must be included.
  • You may NOT use your own pet as the subject of your Case Report.

AIMVT wants to make this a learning experience for people considering lecturing in the future or that want to improve their presentation skills. Technician Case Report presenters with little to no lecture experience are encouraged to submit.  Presenters who are selected will be mentored to assist in final preparation of the case for presentation.

  • Presentations are limited to a total of 20 minutes each:
    • 15-minute presentation
    • 5 minutes permitted for questions from the audience.
    • Each presentation will be timed.

  • A computer-generated presentation is required. We suggest the use of PowerPoint for your presentation. The set-up time and proper functioning of the computer program is the responsibility of the presenter. The moderator will meet you before your presentation and pre-load your presentation on the desktop of the computer.

  • Each presentation will be evaluated by an independent panel of technician judges who will offer invaluable oral critiques of all presentations.
    • An award will be given to the overall best presentation within the time limit.
    • Evaluation guidelines include the quality of the case, the actual presentation quality, ability to present within the allotted time frame, and response to questions from the audience.

  • The authors of all case reports that are accepted will be notified in early April.

Requirements
  • Presenters must be credentialed veterinary technicians or credentialed by country of origin.
  • All presenters are required to work with a mentor who is a VTS, DVM, or board-certified specialist (ACVIM, ACVN, etc.).
    • The mentor must review the submission to ensure its integrity and accuracy.
  • Submit a synopsis of the case using the following online form: https://www.cognitoforms.com/AcademyOfInternalMedicineForVeterinaryTechnicians/CaseReportACVIMForum2022
