VTS Credentialing ProcessThank you for your interest in veterinary technician specialty (VTS) credentialing in veterinary internal medicine. The primary purpose of AIMVT is to provide the “opportunity for the veterinary technician to demonstrate superior knowledge in the care and management of patients within the selected discipline of the specialty of Internal Medicine when credentialed as a VTS (Internal Medicine).”
Eligibility requirements for examination are detailed in the AIMVT Constitution and Bylaws. Although meticulous and comprehensive, they are intended to assure the public and the profession that technicians certified by AIMVT are truly qualified and deserving. Please note that an analysis performed in December 2022 demonstrated an overall application acceptance rate of 36.8%, averaged over the 2016-2022 application period. If you have previously applied to or received certification from another VTS Academy, AIMVT requires a waiting period of a minimum of three years between applications/certifications. Be sure to complete AIMVT's intent to apply form to ensure you are in the Academy's database and that you receive application updates as they are available. AIMVT understands that the VTS application process can be a daunting task. If you are interested in forming a mentor relationship with one of our VTS during your application year, please visit our Mentorship page. In addition, we have application tips from past applicants. It is important to remember that having an AIMVT mentor, or receiving feedback from AIMVT members, other VTS-es, or Diplomates does not guarantee your application will pass. Applicants are entirely responsible for the quality of the application they submit. AIMVT utilizes a two part application process. Part 1 is due NO LATER THAN 11:59p PT March 15th of the application year. If applicants pass Part 1, the Advanced Skills List sign off, Case Logs, and Case Reports will be due NO LATER THAN 11:59p PT September 30th of the application year. Instructions are linked above.
