Required Qualifications
- Associates degree in Veterinary Technology, NYS licensure or eligible to be licensed required, with minimum 1 year of LVT experience or equivalent combination of experience and education

- Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Since 1985 we have offered high quality medical care, consultation, referral, and emergency veterinary services for the care of dogs, cats and exotic pets. The Foster Hospital for Small Animals is home to one of less than 30 veterinary dialysis facilities in the United States. The Dialysis Center service has expanded over the years to an extracorporeal therapy service providing not only hemodialysis treatments but also therapeutic plasma exchange for immune mediated disease as well as hemoperfusion treatments for emergent toxicity cases. For small patients requiring treatment, Cummings School is the first veterinary school in the country to have a Carpediem™ enabling treatment of patients weighing 2-10kgs. The Dialysis service is currently supported by two full-time VTS (ECC) technicians, one of which is also a VTS (SAIM). They are also supported within the Internal Medicine service by two additional VTS technicians and multiple CVT’s. We are now looking for an additional VTS tracking or current VTS to join this talented team.
The Diagnostic Imaging technician IV provides exceptional level imaging quality for all diagnostic imaging modalities. This position requires the ability to multitask and excellent prioritization of cases to manage a varying caseload with the ability to also support different sections daily or multiple modalities within the day depending on caseload and expertise needs. The Diagnostic Imaging technician has exceptional communication skills to be able to teach students, interns, residents and other fellow technicians in safe handling, positioning, imaging technique and safe sedation practices.

The Dialysis Center service has expanded over the years to an extracorporeal therapy service providing not only hemodialysis treatments but also therapeutic plasma exchange for immune mediated disease as well as hemoperfusion treatments for emergent toxicity cases. For small patients requiring treatment, Cummings School is the first veterinary school in the country to have a Carpediem™ enabling treatment of patients weighing 2-10kgs. The Dialysis service is currently supported by two full-time VTS (ECC) technicians, one of which is also a VTS (SAIM). They are also supported within the Internal Medicine service by two additional VTS technicians and multiple CVT’s. We are now looking for an additional VTS tracking or current VTS to join this talented team.
Under the direction of the Internal Medicine veterinarians, the Hemodialysis technician works as a part of a team performing extracorporeal therapy services as well as providing intensive care to the services’ inpatients. The Hemodialysis technician will perform and assist in all areas of patient care in this section including but not limited to; placing central IV catheters, sedating patients, placing dialysis catheters, feeding tubes, initiating treatments, monitoring and performing serial patient assessment and bloodwork. In addition to managing patients during treatments, the Hemodialysis technician provides integral support to the ICU team by providing intensive and advanced patient care to patients receiving extracorporeal therapy.

Working independently and relying on extensive experience, The Veterinary technician IV demonstrates strong leadership skills and uses independent clinical judgement regarding nursing care and technical tasks and reports the result to the attending veterinarian. The Veterinary Technician IV provides expert services in teaching/instructing veterinary and technical students during rotations and provides work direction, coaching and mentoring to junior staff.

The Small Animal Cardiology department offers state of the art diagnostic and surgical procedures and techniques, and is dedicated to providing the highest level of care and service to animals. We work in a collaborative, academic teaching environment with highly credentialed faculty veterinarians, who seek to educate veterinary students, referring veterinarians, and pet owners in cardiac management.
What you’ll do:
Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.

What you’ll do:
- Preparing patients (dogs, cats, horses and other large animal and exotic animal species) for, and assisting with a variety of cardiology exams
- Assisting with the care of hospitalized patients including C-arm and power injector manipulation, and gathering surgical supplies for procedures.
- Performing and educating veterinary students and house staff about blood sample collection, IV catheter placement, injections, blood pressure measurements, 12-lead ECG recording, Holter placement
- Orienting students on clinical cardiology rotation
- Centralizing messages from rDVM and clients, including medication refill requests, collect lab work results and pass messages onto the appropriate staff member
- Act as a liaison with other services for efficient patient care, and oversee efficient diagnostic work up of each patient, to include handling and monitoring of equipment

Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology and NYS licensure with one to two years of experience as an LVT or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain accurate records of patients, both in written and electronic form (Electronic Medical Record); ability to work collaboratively in a professional manner at all times.
- Ability to utilize, or learn to utilize, multiple computer programs as required to EMR and data collection.
- Must be patient and have strong animal handling skills.
- Meet the physical demands of the position, which include prolonged standing and kneeling, lifting and restraining animals
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

- This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
