This course will describe management of Equine Internal Medicines most critical and dangerous patients. These patients include horses suffering from acute injuries, diseases and conditions that affect their ability to balance or maintain a normal standing posture. Nervous and Mechanical issues create unique treatment challenges for the veterinary team and this course describes safety, nursing care, diseases and conditions that lead to instability or recumbency, Clinical procedures and diagnostic testing, and soft skills for the Equine Veterinary Technician to strengthen team strategy when managing the recumbent, neurologic or post traumatic patient.

- Describe methods and considerations for safely moving, managing, and treating the neurologic, post-traumatic, or recumbent equine patient.
- Select an appropriate anesthetic, analgesic, or sedative protocol to assist with admission to the hospital or ongoing management
- List the basic diseases, disease processes, and conditions that can cause nervous or mechanical dysfunction in the horse.
- Discuss nursing care of the recumbent, neurologic, or equine sling patient
- Diagnostic tests and modalities overview and their importance in various equine internal medicine cases
