Who or What is the AIMVT??

The Academy of Internal Medicine for Veterinary Technicians was formed in 2003 by a group of veterinary technicians who envisioned a VTS (veterinary technician specialty) in Internal Medicine. AIMVT achieved provisional recognition from the Committee of Veterinary Technician Specialties (CVTS) of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America in 2006. It is the goal of AIMVT to help promote greater interest and advanced skills in the disciplines of Internal Medicine on the part of the veterinary technician member of the veterinary health care team.

Why is a specialty technician group needed?

Veterinary Internal Medicine is defined as the branch of veterinary medicine concerned with non-surgical diseases in animals. Internal Medicine is further defined to include the advanced knowledge of wellness and preventative medicine, a detailed knowledge of complex, acute and chronic disease states, and a thorough knowledge of the anatomy, pathology and pathophysiology of animals.  Owners are becoming increasingly knowledgeable about advances in medicine, both human and veterinary. Armed with this information, they now demand the same excellence in care for their beloved pets as they expect for themselves. Providing this level of care requires skilled and motivated veterinary professionals who strive to keep current with the latest technologies and techniques for the benefits of their patients.
