Remote examination, proctor eligibility, and room selection

Remote Examination
The exam is administered via ExamSoft, a digital platform used by many institutions, including for the American Bar examination.

Find out more at examsoft.com

Exams are taken remotely on your laptop, computer, or tablet. For more information on system requirements, visit their help center
Proctor Eligibility
Eligibility to proctor examinations is from any of the categories below:
  • VTS of AIMVT
  • VTS of any other CVTS recognized academy
  • Diplomate of ACVIM or ECVIM
  • Diplomate of any other AVMA or European recognized college
  • DVM
Their professional standing is required as proof of their willingness to abide by the policies and procedures as outlined in the Proctor Agreement document or risk their professional reputation.

To avoid conflict of interest, AIMVT requests that individuals who fit into one of the following categories below NOT be involved with the administration of AIMVT examinations. If a potential proctor falls within one of these categories, please remove them from consideration.
  • Immediate family members of the candidate taking the examination.
  • Individuals who are planning to take the examination in the future (i.e., the next 3 years).
  • Individuals with a vested interest in the outcome of the examination, including close friends, coworkers, and supervisors.
Proctor Responsibilities
Once identified and AIMVT notified, the Proctor must complete and sign the affidavit of nondisclosure agreement

The Proctor is responsible for the following tasks:
  • Assisting with set up of room prior to examination.
  • Assisting with identification check of test candidates if unknown to the proctor.
  • Checking for proper use of note paper. No references, cell phones, calculators, or other blue-toothed enabled devices are allowed.
  • Monitoring of testing room and observation of candidate behavior.
  • Maintaining test security.
Complete instructions can be found here
Room selection
  • Secure a quiet setting, no interruptions, no other people (besides your proctor). This means no one walking/passing behind you in the room.
  • Make sure that everyone who will be in the house/office/wherever understands. Lock the door if you have to. This includes our 4-legged family. Our Executive Director's cat, Philbert, is the one who meows at all shut doors. Day board? Day care? Out with 2 legged for the half day? Do whatever you need to ensure your peaceful and quiet environment.
  • Make sure you are front lighted so your face is easily seen. Do not obscure your face with hats, scarves, or hair.
  • Foam ear plugs are OK but NO ear buds or noise cancelling ear devices, as we are unable to tell if they have Bluetooth capability.

In 2026, you have the option to take the exam in person instead

The AIMVT examination is held in conjunction with ACVIM Forum and takes place on the Tuesday morning prior to the start of the Forum.  For a list of upcoming locations for ACVIM Forum, click the button:
