AIMVT's Code of Conduct

The success of our academy is dependent on the trust and confidence we earn from the entire veterinary community. This includes our clients, our peers, doctors, Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, future veterinary technicians, and vendors. Your professionalism is also reflected in your social media. When you leave the veterinary hospital in the evening, your professionalism should go with you.
 
We gain credibility by adhering to our commitments, displaying honesty and integrity, and reaching our goals solely through honorable conduct. It is easy to say what we must do, but the proof is in our actions. Ultimately, we will be judged on what we do.
 
The Academy of Internal Medicine for Veterinary Technicians (AIMVT) is committed to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the profession so that we can best serve our members, the animals in their care, and to provide a harassment-free Academy experience for everyone. This commitment embraces the value of our members' varied backgrounds, regardless of and including but not limited to: gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, physical and mental abilities, physical appearance, body size, parental, marital, or pregnancy status, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), political beliefs, military or veteran status, geographic, socioeconomic, and/or educational backgrounds. Material or language that ridicules, belittles, degrades an individual or group, or displays human sexual language and imagery, whether direct or implied, is not appropriate in any form. No member shall attend any meeting or lecture while under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol. The AIMVT is committed to actively promoting and maintaining diversity and inclusion in our membership, leadership, and organization, and educating our members regarding the value of diversity and inclusion.
 
AIMVT has a zero-tolerance policy both in the organization and at any AIMVT event for harassment in any form. If a member engages in harassing behavior, AIMVT may take any action it deems appropriate, up to and including warning the offender or expulsion from the Academy with loss of VTS title.

Executive Board Members
As executive board members, our credibility must set the bar for our members.  We are all leaders in our profession, and we must be held to the highest of standards.

Moderators
As moderators, we must be professional in our appearance and conduct ourselves professionally at every opportunity during conferences.

Members
Members of the Academy should present themselves as professionals, be active learners, and strive to learn during any scientific session.  Participation during meetings is a privilege afforded you as a Veterinary Technician Specialist in the veterinary profession.  You are a role model for veterinary technician students and other technicians who strive to attain the title of Veterinary Technician Specialist.

Dress
When attending any function where you are representing yourself as a member of the academy, you should be dressed in business casual attire.  Skirts or slacks are appropriate.  Shorts and t-shirts are not professional, and you should refrain from wearing these items while attending education meetings.
