Neurology is defined as the specialty branch of veterinary medicine concerned with the study, care and treatment of medical and surgical diseases of the nervous system; including the central, peripheral, and autonomic systems; and of neuromuscular disorders and diseases.

The petition was submitted to the CVTS of NAVTA in April!  CVTS review of the petition in July and the recomendation to the Executive Board was to recommend for recognition.  The NAVTA board voted to accept the recommendation.  That makes it official!  If you are interested in applying for your specialty in neurology and you haven't already done so, please complete the prospective member link to place your information in the database.

It is with great pleasure that AIMVT presents the members of the neurology organizing committee!

Maureen A. Sroufe, LVT – Ms. Sroufe is currently working as a veterinary technician in Neurology and Special Procedures for the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg.  Maureen has over 8 years experience in neurology and has been a licensed technician for 12 years. She states “One of the reasons I love neurology is lesion localization. It’s similar to being a detective and solving the mystery of what is ailing your patient. I also truly enjoy teaching the students, helping them understand the neurology exam and becoming more comfortable with lesion localization.”

Erin Hyland Thalheimer RVT – Ms. Thalheimer is the Head Veterinary Technician and Hospital Supervisor for the Veterinary Neurologic Hospital and Rehabilitation Center of Westminster, Maryland.  Erin has over 7 years experience as a neurology technician and has been a registered technician for the same.   Erin has found working in the field of neurology to be a constant challenge and a continual opportunity for learning.  Her favorite part of her job is helping to educate pet owners on their pet's condition.

The standards for candidates in the current subspecialties of AIMVT can be found under the Exam Information section and follow the links to Prerequisites.  The standards will be the same for neurology candidates.  AIMVT and the neurology committee members are now hard at work to develop the job analysis, neurology advanced skills and knowledge lists and the exam domains for neurology.  The tentative schedule for neurology candidates is:
