a. TASK - Working with the veterinarian, review the medical history, previous protocols, and diagnostic tests of the neurologic patient in order to optimize anesthesia and/or analgesia. 2% of the test
b. TASK - Working with the veterinarian, perform a pre anesthetic and pain assessment examination of the neurologic patient. 3% of the test
c. TASK - Working with the veterinarian, develop and implement an anesthetic/analgesic plan that optimizes patient safety and comfort by addressing risk factors and is appropriate to the procedure or condition. 3% of the test

a. TASK - Know the anatomy of companion animal species to enhance the assessment of animal care. 8% of the test

3. DIAGNOSTIC and LABORATORY TESTS and STUDIES 23% of the test
a. TASK - Collect appropriate specimen(s) for diagnostic evaluation taking into account risk factors to the patient associated with various sample collections. Recognize changes to laboratory values that can be caused secondary to the method of collection/handling of a sample. 8% of the test
b. TASK - Perform diagnostic studies as prescribed by the veterinarian (i.e. spinal radiographs, CT, MRI etc.) to ensure diagnostic quality results. Know proper patient preparation/positioning to ensure diagnostic quality results. 4% of the test
c. TASK - Perform laboratory tests (i.e. acetylcholene receptor antibody titer, DNA testing for degenerative myelopathy, 2M muscle antibody etc.) as prescribed by the veterinarian.. Demonstrate appropriate handling and shipping of laboratory samples. 5% of the test
d. TASK - Discuss indications for use and interpretation of laboratory tests and diagnostic studies results with the veterinarian and/or client to provide optimal patient care. 2% of the test
e. TASK - Maintain diagnostic and laboratory equipment, including quality control procedures, to ensure accurate results and maintain safety throughout the process. 2% of the test
f. TASK - Identify risk factors to self and hospital personnel associated with handling of zoonotic or infectious disease samples and appropriate means of protection. 2% of the test

a. TASK - Recognize and discuss signs and complications of disease and common concurrent disease states. Know and discuss the pathology, pathophysiology and outcome of disease with the veterinarian and/or client in order to provide optimal patient care. 7% of the test

a. TASK - Perform drug calculations as directed by the veterinarian to ensure patient and client safety. 4% of the test
b. TASK - Comprehend, anticipate and recognize drug reactions, contraindications, interactions, absorption, administration protocols and mechanics of commonly used medications in neurology cases to ensure patient, client and personnel safety. 2% of the test
c. TASK - Discuss special handling, administration, complications and side effects of anticonvulsant or immunosuppressive medications utilized in neurology cases for the patients, hospital personnel and/or clientele. 1% of the test
6. ANIMAL CARE, MANAGEMENT, NURSING & TREATMENT 21% of the test
a. TASK - Working with the veterinarian, calculate, administer and monitor the proper medications and fluid therapy treatments to achieve optimal patient care and outcome in the neurologic patient. 4% of the test
b. TASK - Working with the veterinarian, discuss treatment indications and possible reactions, both favorable and adverse to enhance care of the neurologic patient. 2% of the test
c. TASK - Monitor the neurologic patient throughout the treatment plan recognizing common or uncommon post procedure complications to ensure patient safety and well being. 9% of the test
d. TASK - Safely restrain and handle animals in order to optimize patient outcome and ensure personnel safety. 2% of the test
e. TASK - Recognize life threatening conditions, alert veterinarian and working with the veterinarian initiate appropriate intervention. 3% of the test
f. TASK - Recognize increased risks and demonstrate appropriate nursing care associated with long term recumbent patients. 1% of the test
