  1. ANESTHESIA and ANALGESIA – 8% of test

 

    1. TASK – Working with the veterinarian, perform a pre anesthetic and/or assessment of pain examination of the patient and a review of the medical history, previous protocols, and diagnostic tests of the patient in order to optimize anesthesia or analgesia.  4% of test
    2. TASK – Working with the veterinarian, implement an anesthetic plan and/or analgesic plan, including patient monitoring, to optimize the personnel and patient safety and the efficacy of the plan.  4% of test

    1. TASK – Identify the anatomy of monogastric or multigastric large animal species to enhance animal care.  14% of test

  1. DIAGNOSTIC and LABORATORY TESTS and STUDIES – 24% of test
    1. TASK – Collect appropriate specimen(s) for diagnostic evaluation.  7% of test
    2. TASK – Perform diagnostic tests and studies as prescribed by the veterinarian (i.e. auscultation, diagnostic imaging, ECG) to ensure diagnostic, quality results.  4% of test
    3. TASK – Perform laboratory tests and studies as prescribed by the veterinarian (i.e. microscopy, clotting tests, cross match) to ensure diagnostic, quality results and demonstrate appropriate handling and shipping (including legal requirements) of diagnostic samples.  6% of test
    4. TASK – Discuss indications for use and interpretation of results for diagnostic tests and studies with the veterinarian and/or client to provide optimal animal care.  2% of test

    1. TASK – Recognize and discuss signs, symptoms, complications, pathology, pathophysiology and outcomes of disease with the veterinarian and/or client in order to provide optimal animal care.  5% of test
    2. TASK – Discuss the transmission, pathways and etiology of diseases with the veterinarian and/or client to provide optimal animal care and ensure biosafety.  4% of test

    1. TASK –Perform drug calculations as directed by the veterinarian to ensure animal and client safety.  3% of test
    2. TASK – Comprehend, anticipate and recognize drug reactions, contraindications, interactions, absorption, administration protocols and mechanics to ensure animal, client and personnel safety.  4% of test
    3. TASK – Calculate, formulate, and administer the proper nutritional requirements of animals and disease states to optimize care.  2% of test
    4. TASK – Comprehend and adhere to drug withdrawal times and routes of administration to ensure public health and food safety.  1% of test

 

  1. ANIMAL CARE, MANAGEMENT, NURSING and TREATMENT – 20% of test

a.       TASK - Calculate, formulate, administer and monitor the proper prescribed fluid therapy treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian to achieve optimal fluid balance.  3% of test

b.      TASK - Working with the veterinarian, discuss treatment indications and possible reactions, both favorable and adverse to enhance animal care.  4% of test

c.       TASK – Monitor the patient through out the treatment plan to ensure animal health and safety.  7% of test

d.      TASK – Safely provide access to various body systems.  2% of test

e.       TASK – Safely restrain and handle animals in order to optimize outcome and ensure personnel safety.  1% of test

f.       TASK – Demonstrate proper barrier nursing and isolation protocol for various infectious and/or zoonotic diseases.  1% of test

g.      TASK – Working with the veterinarian, demonstrate and/or perform tasks and treatments associated with optimizing reproductive efficiency.  2% of test
